The newest addition is the Arena Football team, the Columbus Destroyers. There is also the nationally ranked Ohio State football team. The annual marathon draws top runners from around the world each fall, and the annual PGA Memorial Golf Tournament is held each May at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
There is more usable park space per capita in central Ohio than any other community in the country. The metro park system has more than 9,000 acres, with 166 recreation and parklands, three reservoirs, campgrounds, swimming pools, playgrounds, and 92 miles of public riverfront land. Cyclists, joggers, rollerbladers, and walkers enjoy the scenic 10 mile paved bike path that stretches along the Olentangy river. The city's revitalized downtown sports the Columbus City Center mall, one of the most successful urban shopping centers in the nation, and a renovated brewery district that has many attractions. The historic German Village is a charming step into the past with its 19th century brick homes and many restored shops and fine restaurants. The newly renovated Arena District houses Nationwide Arena, home of the Blue Jackets, along with many upscale shops, restaurants, and condos. The city's centralized location is a tremendous asset, and two thirds of Americans live within 500 miles of Columbus. The city has a transit system, extensive interstates and freeways, and charter bus systems. Port Columbus International Airport serves top airlines and is an expanding hub. |
