The family practice movement toward specialization was encouraged by central Ohio physicians, and Columbus has remained a leader in the practice and of physicians in this specialty Riverside Methodist Hospital, Ohio's largest private general medicine center, began its family practice residency program in 1974. Since then, every one of its graduates has passed the family practice board examinations. Fifty percent have ranked in the 90th percentile or better on their board scores. These residents are practicing across the United States in rural and urban areas. Our Family Practice Program's fill record for residents is equaled by only a few other residencies in the country.
As one of Ohio's busiest hospitals, Riverside treats approximately 150,000 inpatients, outpatients and emergency cases each year. The Family Practice Center sees an average of 24,000 patient visits annually. These statistics add up to an excellent training ground for Riverside's 18 family practice residents. As a family practice resident, you also benefit from interactions with the other 130 residents who practice in a variety of specialties, including general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology (ob/gyn) and emergency medicine. An attending staff of 950 includes a teaching staff of nearly 250 physicians, including many outstanding specialists. A program director, associate director, six assistant program directors, a behaviorist and nine community practitioners provide specialized knowledge about the field of family practice. |
