Skin Cancer Prevention

  • Avoid sunbathing

  • Use sunscreen - SPF 15 or higher and remember to reapply often

  • Be careful of unnecessary sun exposure, especially from the peak hours of 10 am to 4 pm

  • When you are in the sun wear protective clothing - Sun glasses, long sleeved shirts, long pants, and broad-brimmed hats.

  • Keep kids out of the sun - sun damage from childhood can lead to skin cancer in adults

  • Avoid artifical tanning devices

  • Exam your skin frequently - discuss any skin changes with your family doctor

  • Follow up - if you have a history of skin cancers or pre-cancers, be sure to see your doctor for a skin check regularly
